Autism & Stop and Searches

Please help and encourage Young People to fill out the 'Met Police's Autism Passport.’ Please print it out and advise them they should carry it around with them in the event they are stopped and searched. (You don’t need to take this to a police station. You only have to give the police your personal details if it's necessary, like when you are stopped and searched and need to show it to them.)

Please read Stop & Search Guidance for Autistic People and Police Officers.

What is Autism? Autism is a condition that affects how someone thinks and interacts with others. People with autism may communicate and understand things differently.

What is Stop & Search? Stop and search is when police stop someone to check for weapons or illegal items. This can be stressful for young people with autism.

The Autism Passport The Met Police's Autism Passport is a helpful tool for young people with autism. It contains important information about your needs and communication style. If stopped by police, this passport can help them understand you better.
